Holidays
Recycling collection holidays for 2010: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. If your collection day falls on any of these holidays, collection is rescheduled for the following Saturday.

Note: Municipal Public Works holidays do NOT affect the recycling collection schedule.

Weather Emergencies
Changes in collection schedules due to weather emergencies or other emergency situations will be announced on the following radio stations: WCTC (1450 AM) and WMGQ (98.3 FM). You may also check for changes on the web site at www.mciauth.com or by calling (800) 488-MCIA (6242) for specific information.

Special Items
Large Appliances (White Metals) can be picked up all year by appointment only. For an appointment, call (732) 968-1603 or (732) 356-7953 between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The Middlesex Borough Recycling Center is located behind Borough Hall, 1200 Mountain Avenue.

The hours of operation are:

Winter (Standard Time): 6 a.m. – 5 p.m., Tuesday – Friday, and 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday

Summer (Daylight Savings Time): 6 a.m. – 6 p.m., Tuesday – Friday, and from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday

Closed on Sundays, Mondays and Borough holidays

Leaves & Grass
Grass Collection: Contact your local DPW for dates at (732) 968-1603 or (732) 356-7953. Pickup will be made every Wednesday. Grass will only be picked up in paper biodegradable bags. Plastic bags will NOT be picked up. Items can also be taken to the Recycling Center April – October 28.

Leaf Collection: Leaves will only be picked up in paper biodegradable bags. Plastic bags will NOT be picked up. Items can also be taken to the Recycling Center. DO NOT RAKE LEAVES TO CURB.

November 1 – December 27.

Important Note: The Borough will provide 20 biodegradable bags per household. These bags will be available for pickup at the Recycling Center during the month of October. (Proper ID required, no exceptions. Program subject to change without notice.)

Christmas Trees will be collected every Wednesday in January. Put trees out Tuesday night.

Scheduled Bulk/Trash Pickups
Garbage Collection:
Please Note: From November 1st through December 26th, garbage will be picked up once a week. Monday/Thursday schedule will be picked up on Monday. Tuesday/Friday schedule will be picked up on Tuesday. Regular twice-a-week pick-up will resume on the 27th.

Bulk Collection: Bulk pickup will be done by appointment only and limited to one per year. Please call (732) 968-1603 or (732) 356-7400, ext. 278, between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. to schedule an appointment for pickup. (There will be no pickups scheduled in November or December.) Branches must be taken to the Recycling Center.

Please adhere to the following rules: (rules will be strictly enforced)
1. All debris at curb no sooner than the night before, no later than 5 a.m. on the day of the pickup.
2. Please try to limit to 1 yard of debris (the size of 21⁄2 office desks).
3. Package debris no more than 50 pounds in a bundle.
4. Debris from businesses will not be picked up.
5. Debris from contractors will not be picked up.
6. Items that will not be picked up during bulk pickup: recyclables, hazardous waste, concrete, rocks, kitchen garbage, dirt, leaves, stumps, branches, grass clippings, appliances, propane tanks, tires and metal.
7. Branches must be brought to the Recycling Center, cut in 41⁄2 foot lengths.
8. Absolutely no construction material.
