Roosevelt Care Center To Open Alzheimer's/Dementia Unit
April 7, 2006 – Roosevelt Care Center is opening a unit for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia inside its new 180-bed facility. The 30-bed unit will offer specialized services and care for residents undergoing the early stages of the disease.
The new unit will accommodate residents new to Roosevelt and others who will be moving from the historic building across Parsonage Road in Edison. The 45-bed unit inside the historic building will continue to serve residents in the later stages of the disease.
“This is a compliment to our first unit and will undoubtedly improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Roosevelt Care Center Administrator Dr. Frank Damiani. “This type of illness can be very difficult for both the patient and the family. Here at Roosevelt, we are creating a community tailored to fit the unique needs of those for whom the disease is not as advanced. Our professional team is trained to meet the needs of patients in stages one, two and three of Alzheimer’s and dementia.”
Additional staff has already
been hired to meet the demands of the second unit, Damiani said.
Roosevelt’s approach toward treatment offers a unique perspective, viewing
socializing and structure as issues of utmost importance.
Residents will have semi-private rooms, with two to each bedroom. The new unit includes a gated, outdoor patio area that can be enjoyed by the residents.
There is also office and meeting space and a dining room included in the unit, which is housed on the second floor of the four-story facility.
